Business Overview

Over the past several years, the students of Harrison K-8 School have been raising money for new playground equipment during the spring fundraisers. However, new equipment is very expensive and it is difficult to raise the type of funds needed. Therefore, we have the opportunity to apply for a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) School Play Yard Initiative grant. We currently have a committee of staff, parents and students that are working on applying for this initiative. It is a lot of hard work and there is not a guarantee that we will receive the monies. Nevertheless, we have high hopes and goals for our school. The GOCO grant requires the money to be applied to a natural playscape that can be utilized by the school and will benefit the community. Thus, our goal is to provide an interactive outdoor classroom with climbing equipment. Therefore, it would serve two purposes. It would provide more learning opportunities for all of our K-8 students as well as allow our students the chance to play in a natural environment. Our goal for the community is to feel welcome to use the facility for a wide variety of reasons, from family picnics, artists that want to be inspired by the view, to Boy Scouts and Girl Scout troops to hold meetings, or senior citizen that would like to meet to have coffee. The ideas are endless. We have several people that being very supportive and are willing share services or donate money. Nonetheless, we need our parents from Harrison School to assist in this project as well. We need your support. The more support we have for this project the more appealing our proposal looks to the committee. How can you help? Please look at the list of ideas to see what you can do. Community Building Volunteer: We need a letter stating you would be willing to volunteer your time to help with the building project on the weekend, etc.Donate Service: If you are an expert at constructing, landscaping, or excavating, we would also need a letter stating you would be willing to donate your service. Donate Money: Any amount would be appreciated, since we have to match 25% of the funds.Letters of support: We need letters of support stating how you feel your family or organization would benefit from a new outdoor classroom.
