Business Overview

Earlier this year I played around with spinning feathers into yarn. I have been dreaming of doing a series. Here are the first five. I spun singles to match each feathered yarn, so someone can make the feathered collar. individually I think they are stunning. Time consuming to spin and it requires serious focus. I can't even watch a Netflix while spinning these. So worth it! I have been playing around with cheese and soap making. After a lot of research and assurance that Marc will help milking them, we brought home two East Friesian sheep yesterday afternoon. They don't know what pasture is, so we are feeding them grain. Baby names for the year will be based on the weather, since it has been so odd this year. Black Eyed pea had twins this morning - an ewe and a ram. Both are now drinking, but even with the barn being about 49 degrees, the lambs get chilled before they can get on mom. I named these two Cloudy and Showers. Bet you can guess our weather for today! Formal Shop Hours: Friday 10-4; Saturday 10-12. I am always open by appointment and welcome visitors at all hours. Location: The farm is 4 miles north off I 70, west of Baltimore and the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival fairgrounds. I am an hour north of Washington, DC. Directions: From I 70 in Baltimore, go west to the Woodbine Road, Rt 94 exit. Go north on Woodbine for approximately 4 miles. 6401 is on the right. There is a black wrought iron sign at the entrance to the driveway. The shop is the huge red barn at the end of the drive. I specialize in mohair, wool, alpaca and llama, handspun novelty art/funky yarns, as well as knitted, crocheted, felted, woven, and knitted items. I teach knitting, spinning, wet and nuno felting, and weaving by appointment. I do take interns, and sometimes live-in interns, so contact me, if you are interested. You will learn the entire process for turning raw fibers into yarns as well as any of the other techniques that I teach. This is in exchange for help washing fibers, administrative help in the shop and going to shows. You will learn the business side as well as the art side. Read more
